Eight Years of Loyalty is a Worthless Thing These Days

After being with StageCoach Theater Arts schools for nearly eight years, the principal of my school has hereby threatened to basically expel me from the program if I don’t get to classes right on time. And we’ve (my family, that is) been taking classes there since the late ’90s. I would think that would get us some tolerance. They were a lot friendlier before they got big. They started with schools in Minnesota, but they have expanded to California, Illinois, and New York. In true big-corporation fashion, they’ve become more and more impersonal as they’ve grown. Bah!

Study Day?!

I walked to orchestra rehearsal as usual today. I carried my violin the whole way, like always. Only to find that I didn’t need it. That’s right, the conductor declared a study day, because of some test going on. I didn’t know what test, wasn’t told, and certainly wasn’t involved. And I didn’t have anything to study, of course, so why was I there? Because I always am. What a waste of time! I did get to clean cellos and sort band uniforms, though. That was interesting, but I’d rather have worked on Beethoven’s Fifth…

Wonderful Features, Apex. Not!

I don’t know if I’ve mentioned this before, but I take AP classes at my school through an online portal from Apex Learning. That said, I am less than satisfied with their software. First of all, in the complete opposite functionality of Blackboard Academic Suite (the portal for the regular classes), the discussions in Apex have no threads. Navigating conversations is very difficult, since there is no threading, indenting, nesting, or any other helpful feature. Second, the course window times out after a certain period (I haven’t timed it, but it’s pretty short). It gives a very annoying error if…

AP Biology Gets Annoying

I have been working on my AP Biology course the past few days, and have noticed something. There are only five Labs in the entire year, and they’re only worth 30 points each, but they take much longer than the tests, which are worth 100 points and take only about 45 minutes. Something is definitely wrong with the way this course is structured… Also, I have been going back and forth with my teacher on a lab that was due last week. I’ve been in a conversation (at an average of one email per party per day) for nearly a…

High School Course Differences (PS: Google’s Coding Errors)

Most courses in high school allow you to resubmit an assignment for additional credit. My AP biology course won’t. The teacher even goes so far as to say she said this wasn’t possible, but I never found it anywhere. Perhaps she just likes my score the way it is?In contrast, my creative writing teacher says she’d be happy to have me revise my stories. Go figure. Why must teachers be so different? PSGoogle seems to have allowed a lot of JS errors to creep into its services. Aren’t they validating their code?
